a hug

Our topic tonight for d-groups is prayer. What a priviledge to help middle school kids struggle with important questions. How do I pray? Why is God sometimes silent? Can I really hear His voice?

We worship together, and God's presence is powerful. We look at scriptures about prayer, and I share personal stories about my search for intimacy with God. For a while we are just silent, listening for God's voice.

Then we split into small groups and make our way to rooms around the church. I walk down the hallway, and inside the rooms are 6th & 7th grade boys quietly talking by candle light. That alone is a miraculous answer to prayer.

Later I find that a group of girls had an amazing thing happen.  While praying one of the girls sensed God telling her to give another girl a hug, and so she did. The girl receiving the hug then announced to everyone that she had just been sitting there praying for a hug. Wow!

Lord, that whole night was like a big hug from You.
