It's an overcast, cool day at Navy Pier in Chi Town. We're in sweat shirts and wind breakers, not that it;s all that windy today, but we got off the Sea Dog boat tour moments ago. Candi and I sit on a bench with her mom and dad between us. Candi's sisters, Cami and Cristi, are on the bench next to us, laughing about something. The rest of the family is playing putt putt golf nearby. It's all part of celebrating Arden and Thelma's 50th wedding anniversary.
So we sit here on the bench watching strangers walk by. Do you ever just sit and watch people and wonder about their life and say a prayer for them? It's actually quite enjoyable. It's nice to have a day to relax. Rest has been a rare thing between prepping for camp, doing camp, and trying to recover from camp. So this time to get away with the family is sweet. I'm reminded again that God's plan is for us to rest, to make space in our lives for sabbath. Today that space exists right here in this moment as we spend a lazy day playing at Navy Pier.
Our bench thoughts turn more serious while considering with admiration what Arden and Thelma have accomplished; 50 years of marriage. I feel so blessed to have married into this family. We make the amazing discovery that my parents, and both of Cami and Cristi's in-laws are all celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary's within this same year. That's pretty amazing.
God, you are so good, and I am so grateful.
