Our friends have a cabin in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. It is a peaceful place built on the side of a mountain just a couple of miles from the hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The last time we were there I found myself thinking about life in general. The cabin gave my family and I some much needed peace and the opportunity to be still. Just below us people were fighting traffic and the busyness that life so often throws at us. Isn't that just like our lives? We fight "traffic", or the "stuff" that keeps us from moving anywhere but in circles, in our life everyday. But, somewhere out of sight there is a "cabin" just waiting for us to retreat within its walls.
We need "cabin" moments. Oh, I know that there are not enough minutes in the day for us to really go to a cabin somewhere in the woods away from everything. But, creating these "cabin" moments is a necessity. They are necessary for a healthy family, a healthy you, and a healthy relationship between you and our precious heavenly Father!
In Matthew 11:28 it says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." It is just that simple. Just as we journeyed to the cabin for a peaceful escape...the Father is gently calling us to come to Him. He is calling us away from the "traffic" of life, where rest can be found in the security of His arms.
Those moments in the cabin brought refreshment, and the moments spent in His presence can do the same for you. With the holidays upon us and the "traffic" becoming even more unmanageable it is critical that we find these times of peace. Schedule some time to be still even if it is just for five minutes. You will find that your stress will be less, your family will like you so much more, and the best benefit will be a heightened awareness of God's presence with you during the day. So, find your "cabin"...your escape...it is just as close as He is, and He dwells wherever you are!
