get connected

God directs me to 1 Samuel 22 this morning.  King Saul is hunting down David, trying to kill him.  David is a man of God, and yet he is on the run, hiding in a cave.  What kind of life is this for a man who loves God and serves Him?   I'm trying to imagine living life in a cave.

Others join David and his cause.  Who comes to join David?  The scripture says, "men who were in trouble or in debt or just disconnected." (22:2)

Hmmmm?  Not people who have everything going right, but people in trouble.  Not people with great resources, but poor people who lost their jobs and have homes in forclosure.  Not powerfully connected people, but people who are "just disconnected".   It sure seems like there are a lot of disconnected people around me.  People looking for friendship and a place to fit in.  People hoping to discover they belong and are needed.

David attracted a bunch of people like this to his cave and his cause.  When this handful of needy people came together, they took on and defeated the entire Philistine army (chapter 23).

Lord, it makes me wonder... what awesome things can be accomplished when disconnected people get connected with You and each other?
