duct tape

Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Last week God spoke to us through this verse, and now look what happens... it pops up again, in our devotion book.  Our Father wants to make His message clear.

Taste Me, and see that I am good, and My ways are good, and My plan for you is good!

Aren't we quick to taste and see... when it comes to what the world has to offer?  It's painful to see students in middle school trying on sex for size like a new shirt, to see if they like how they look in it.  Many kids are so casual about it, like sexual intimacy is no big deal.

Tonight I plead with our kids to taste God's goodness, and hold onto His good plan for their lives.  This includes saving sexual intimacy for marriage.

I rip off a piece of masking tape and attach it to my leg.  Holding hands is like masking tape.  When you break up it's not too painful.  I tear the masking tape from my leg with no problem.  But sex is like duct tape.  When you put duct tape on something, you shouldn't plan to ever take it off.  (I put a long piece of duct tape around my lower leg.)  Sex is like duct tape, meant to be a special permanent part of marriage.  It helps to bond two people together like super glue.  God gives it as a special gift to married people, so that the act of making a child is also one of the most passionate wonderful bonding experiences two people can have.  Because that is God's design for a family.

If a dating relationship leads to sex,  you eventually break up, and then what happens?  (I rip the duct tape from my leg.  It makes that sound that only duct tape makes.  The crowd cringes and gasps.  The hair from my leg now hangs permanently from this piece of tape.)  The result is pain.  When we bypass Gods good plan, the result is always pain.

But God's plan is good!  So for now, until your married, use masking tape in your dating relationships, and save duct tape for that special peson you will some day decide to spend your life with.

That is an awesome analogy, Chris! Instead of just lecturing to the kids (which is what they hear from their parents all the time), that wonderful, vivid, visual example will hopefully pop into their minds at just the right time, more than mere words ever would. I'd like to use that example sometime with my own niece, if you don't mind...but can I borrow your legs? Mine aren't hairy enough... lol

Chris, dude! Danielle can laser your leg, man. Duct tape is a brutal way to shave a few seconds off your Chicago Marathon time. Just fly out here, and Danielle will take care of you, my brutha.

Haha... ouch... awesome!... oh man, ouch... haha! My feelings just go back and forth for you. But what a beautiful (in a weird way) picture you made for those teens.

It just takes one vivid example like that that will make all the difference in the world when one of these teens is tempted. And they will be forever grateful.
