I am up late tonight. The house is quiet, and it is in these moments when I find myself thinking of the season of life I am in. My boys are growing up and soon David and I will have an empty nest. Caleb will be a sophomore this year and Jacob will be in eighth grade. Our lives seem to change so suddenly that it leaves us breathless at times.
I had breakfast with a friend the other day and I explained to her how sad I was feeling about the boys growing up. She said that I needed to be careful to not let the sadness of that reality cloud the time that I have left with them. After that breakfast I found myself thankful for the advice but even more thankful for a friend that would speak the truth in love to me. We need those kind of relationships in our lives. The kind of relationships that sharpen us as iron sharpens iron. The key is choosing Godly friends in our lives and being open and humble enough to allow them to be supportive but also to be honest enough to say the hard things we need to hear. That is TRUE accountability...TRUE friendship. Do you have friends like that? If you can't say that you do, then maybe some self-examination is in order. Are you closed to that because you are afraid or because you have allowed pride to creep into your life? Be careful to choose friends that love the Lord and are growing in their relationship with Him, then allow them to hold your feet to the fire. You will be amazed at the beauty, wisdom, growth, encouragement, support, and closeness that will come from that friendship.
Thank you, friend (you know who you are) for being that in my life. That day the advice was just as filling as the yummy french toast! You are loved and appreciated beyond measure.
