friday morning pancakes

A week ago Brian and I challenged each other to see who would pray the most in one day.  We both forgot about it.  Sad, but good habits take a while to develop I guess.  So this morning, very early, Nick (Brian's friend) shows up at our door and joins us for Friday morning pancakes (a weekly tradition in our home).  While sitting around the table, St Patrick’s amazing feats find it’s way into our conversation.  We decide to make it a group challenge today.  Between all of us we will attempt to pray 100 times today.  No length requirement, it just needs to be sincere.  Here we go…

6:30pm…  As usual, my morning was strong, filled with many prayers about a lot of different issues… some praise, some requests, some mere moments in silence.  As I work on our finances it leads naturally into a deep time of prayer (painful smile).  Even though this is a game, the prayer times feel very natural and good.  But I lose it in the afternoon and go for hours with out any thought of praying.   So when Nick and Brian show up at dinner time I’ve had only 12 moments of prayer.  Brian has 9 and Nick weighs in with an impressive 15.  A sincere, heartfelt before dinner prayer gets us 4 counts closer, and then Nick and Brian leave for the night (after praying together of course).  I’m thinking our chances are not too good of reaching 100 today.
