good intentions

I had good intentions.  My plan was to continue the bell prayer through the mens work weekend.  I spent Friday and Saturday with my dad, brothers, sons and nephews, readying my parents home for winter.  We took in the dock, winterized boats, and cut wood (enough to last the winter).

So I intended to introduce the men of my family to the bell prayer, taking a moment at the top of each hour to pause from our work for prayer.  But somehow, in the midst of all the hard work, I totally forgot about my good intentions.

One thing I learned... without the phone vibrating in my pocket I don't remember to pray.  I just get too focused on whatever I happen to be doing (like trying unsuccessfully to put a chain on a chain saw).

But one cool thing happens late at night as we prepare for another game of Settlers of Catan.  God speaks...  Go talk to your brother, he needs encouragement.  Well, I would, but if I ask him how he's doing he might want to talk about it.  Yes?  Isn't that the point?  Yeah, but then I'll miss out playing Settlers.  Oh?  So this game is more important than your brother?  No, of course not.  I just...  Uh...  I'll just go find him now.   Good.

This leads to an incredible time where all of us men pray over my brother.  God speaks to us, giving us specific words and prayers for him.  It ends up being a blessing to all of us.

Selfish second guessing of God almost stole these precious moments away.  Oh Lord, help me hear your voice, and always obey.
