In my Bible all the words of Jesus are in red letters. Much of the gospels are red of course, but you don’t see very much red in other places. So when Paul has a vision in chapter 18 and God speaks directly to him, those words in red jump off the page.
Do not be afraid, keep on speaking, do not be silent, for I am with you… Acts 18:9-10
I have come to discover that deeper intimacy means I must become more keenly aware of His presence. This morning the words “I am with you” speaks to that part of me that longs to practice his presence.
As you overcome fear, as you speak up, as you talk to people about me… I am with you.
Yes, I get it. Intimacy with you isn’t just about having quiet time. It’s not just about doing the breathing prayer, the bell prayer, and the prayer of examen. All that is great, and should continue. But I will experience the “I am with you” as I tell others about you. I will practice your presence as I bring you into each present moment with persons I encounter.
Is there anything that is keeping you from telling others about me?
Hmmm? Why am I silent at times? What am I afraid of? Who am I being called to speak to?
Do not be afraid, keep on speaking, do not be silent, for I am with you…
