knit together

day 2 at camp is “my space for friends.”

Jonathon and David have this amazing friendship.  The Bible says that their souls were “knit together.”   They stand up for each other, they make a covenant with each other, they even trade girdles (no kidding, see 1 Samuel 18:1-4).

We wrestle with that concept…  not the girdle thing; I mean we wrestle with what it means to be knit together with a friend.  What does that kind of friendship look like, and how do I get it?  We’re all challenged to develop deeper friendships.  Just like a chord of three strands, I’ll be a stronger person when I intertwine my life with God and a good friend.

I find myself feeling very thankful for the handful of friends that fit into the "knit together" category.

p.s.  if the girdle thing has you wondering, google the Biblical definition of a girdle.

I too only have a few special friends that I've "traded girdles" with. :-) They're my 'spiritual friends' with whom I share my victories and struggles. They are most precious gifts from God.
