Heart for Lebanon

First Church supports the work of Heart for Lebanon, a a relief and compassion ministry, which began as a relief effort for eight hundred thousand displaced Lebanese citizens following the war in 2006. After meeting the immediate and practical needs of thousands of people, the organization has focused on community development projects.

Through Heart for Lebanon, YOU have the opportunity to make a difference in a Lebanese farmer's life or can provide help to a displaced Iraqi family:

SOUTH OF LEBANON since July 2006: Lebanon has suffered from the ravages of war... hundreds of displaced farmers with destroyed crops, burnt trees, devastated land and millions of cluster bombs have carpeted the fields and caused deaths and injuries on a daily basis. Homegrown businesses have closed for lack of resources. The return to the southern villages has been slower than expected. Reconstruction is hampered by a weakening economy and continued safety concerns.

IRAQ since March 2003: Millions of displaced Iraqi refugees are scattered throughout the Middle East. An estimated 100,000 Iraqi refugees are currently residing in Lebanon, with the number expected to increase significantly as more flee Iraq due to the continuous killings of Christians in Mosul and surrounding villages north of Iraq. Six to seven families arrive in Beirut daily.

In 2009 Heart for Lebanon is launching the Homemade Soap Project. The project has been developed to encourage and sponsor displaced farmers to return to their land and reopen businesses. A sponsored farmer will commit monthly to deliver 100 olive oil soap bars and Heart for Lebanon will purchase the soap and distribute them to an estimated 1100 Iraqis supported through the ministry.

Support Homemade Soap Project with a tax-deductible donation:

  • $100 will sponsor one farmer for the period of one month
  • $1,200 will ensure a steady yearly income for each farmer and his/her family
  • Every soap bar will offer an Iraqi family an additional and much needed hygiene product
Help restore confidence in this land by making a tax-deductible contribution designated for The Homemade Soap Project and send it to:
