lost keys

The day starts with another miraculous healing.  As Randy tells it, he woke up sensing that God wanted to heal his back.  Randy had one leg shorter than the other, so his hips were twisted and his spine curved with scoliosis.  I always thought his signiture gangster walk was an intentional cool way to walk, but actually that limp was a result of his messed up back.  So this morning, God whispered in his ear, "I want to heal you".

So Randy found the four girls who had prayed for the other healings, and they pray over him.  Long story short, Randy's back is healed!  (get the story straight from Randy on his blog)

What happens next was a nightmare.  Well, I gotta start by explaining that last night some guys from my camp played a practical joke on the other guys camp.  I don't think they intended to do this when they got started, but they ended up throwing all their stuff out of their bags all over the field.  It wasn't a funny joke last night, and it's even less funny now because the keys to the rental car are missing.  At some point during that impractical joke, the keys were tossed and lost.

No problem.  God has healed people.  God has answered amazing prayer requests.  God knows where our keys are, and He can help us find them.  So 60 people gather in a circle and we ask God to guide us to the lost keys.  For over an hour we search the field with no sign of the keys.  We finally realize we are not going to get the answer we wanted.

So God, why do you do that?  Why do you work miralces one moment, and stay silent the next?  Why do you choose to intervene in some situations, but then other times it seems like you ignore our pleas for help?  Sometimes you let natural consequences have their way, and other times you act in a supernatural way.  Why?

Maybe you want us to realize that you are not a vending machine for our prayer coins to be deposited in.  Maybe you want us to realize that we have to live with the consequences of our poor decisions.  You are God, and we are not, so I will probably never totally understand the way you work.

Lord, may we take from this lesson what needs to be learned.  May the lost keys help us find something more important.
