my latest experiments

My newest experiment, “Communion Prayer”, has been mostly forgotten the past few days.  Viewing every meal as an opportunity for communion is a great idea; it’s just hard to remember to remember.  I’ll try again today.

It’s time to summarize again where I’m at with my experiments…

Waking prayer -  this continues to be the perfect way to start every day.  My first waking thought is to surrender myself to God, to give my day to Him.  This has been so rewarding!

Door Post Prayer – I now have 5 different door post prayers that I have written, typed out, and laminated.  All have to do with the Great Commandment; Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength, and Neighbor.  I switch them out ever few days, leaving one of them by our front door post.  Opening the door to my day in this way has been awesome!

Scripture memory – For the past month my focus on John 15 has been so inspiring.  I usually invest time in memorizing during my morning quiet time on the couch; but God continues to bring these verses to mind at times throughout the day.  To “remain in Christ” has become a theme for my life, and my desire to bear fruit for the Kingdom has become a real passion as this scripture has wound it’s way around my heart.

Breathing prayer – At times in the middle of a day I’ll take a 30 second break to just breathe.  I hope to have this happen more often and more naturally.  When I think to do it, it’s always amazing; it just doesn't happen as often as I would like.  The breathing prayer is the key to bringing intimacy with God into the long sections of time while working on the computer or a project.

People prayer – My commitment to pray for every person I see has changed me probably more than anything else.  I must admit, I have a long way to go with this.  But the times I do remember to pray for people are life changing.  I can see more genuine love for people, and this increases my awareness of and love for God too.  I know I’ll get a lot better at this one in the days to come.

Bedtime prayer – Sometimes this is a prayer of examen, and sometimes it’s just a short good night to God.  I use to think about all kinds of things as I fell asleep.  Now my last conscious thought before drifting off to sleep is always a connection with my Abba Father.

It's exciting for me to see all these experiments laid out in front of me like this.  God, you are revealing so much to me!  Help me to grow more and more deeply connected to you.
