(This is our tree, all finished!)
Have you ever had one of those days when you just wanted to stay in your pajamas, put a fire in the fireplace, and snuggle up with a good book. Well, today is one of those days for me. The boys are at school, David is at the church, and our dog, Pretzel, seems to be in the mood to just lay around today as well. So, here I sit having a day of silence. The thing is...as I sit here I have a great view of everything I could be doing. Why is it that it is so hard to just have a day off? Maybe someone could enlighten me! Even though my body is telling me to slow down, my mind is going in a thousand different directions.
So one of the things I was thinking is that there are just 21 days until Christmas and I am soooooo not ready. I don't even have half of my shopping done, the tree is not up yet, and for that matter my fall wreath is still on the front door! Holiday parties, school concerts, church services, and family get togethers are charted on the calendar. Day after day filled to the brim with "stuff" that we find important at the moment, and then a moment comes along that makes everything else pale in comparison!
One of those moments came the other day as I was looking for some of my scrapbooking supplies. I came across the boys baby albums. I opened them up and began to look at page after page of pictures that brought back so many memories. Caleb is 13 now, and Jacob will soon be 11, and the days sure look different for us than they did when they were babies. Our days are filled with basketball practice, swim team practice, homework, and I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. I have been thinking about the time we have had lately as a family, and I think we need to have "One of Those Days"! As I have sat here I have decided that tonight we are skipping swim practice, and we are going to build a fire, rent a movie, eat dinner together, and put up the Christmas tree! I might even get wild and crazy and turn off the phone! I think that these days are needed not just for me, but for my family. Why don't you try it, too. Sometime during the next couple of weeks, take some time and just be together. Before the holidays get too crazy, stop and look in the faces of the ones you love and ask them if they would like to spend some time having "One of Those Days" with you!
Now, I have to get up and go get the boys from school, make dinner, pick up the house a little, and rent that movie! So, if you call tonight you will know why the answering machine will pick up, and the front porch light will be off...Family time is on the calendar tonight!!!! (I will try to take some pictures tonight, and post them later.)
