It's the first Saturday of April, which means I can dump one load of junk for free at Reliable Disposal. So I’m cleaning out the garage, and decide to tackle the shelf filled with old paint cans dating back many years. The dump only accepts empty cans, so I pour the paint into an old kitchen trash can. Each poured out paint color brings back beautiful memories… Pink… Sara’s first little girl room. And the tan color when Scotty and Brian both shared a room. Then Sara moved down to the much coveted basement bedroom. That’s when Scotty got his own room with the baseball theme and green paint. Blue… that was Brian’s room. Then Sara went off to college and Scotty took over downstairs. Purple… Sara’s new room color during her college years. Scotty only had the basement room two years, then he left for college and Brian has it now. So many memories of our family in this home…
An amazing abstract design emerges as the paint from the past mixes together. It’s a random mixture of color that seems to capture my swirling emotions. I’m saddened by memories of times forever gone, and yet thankful, so thankful for the life lived within these walls. These old painted walls are now scraped, spackled, and sanded. The past is covered with primer, and preparations are made for new colors.
Abba Father, I am so grateful for a moment to appreciate the past, and also incredibly thankful for the promise of new colors to come!
