January 22-28, Pray for Preperation

“If you remain in me and I in you, you will produce much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing”  John 15:5

Please cover with prayer your fellow believers (listed on front) who are going to Paraguay February 4 to encourage the churches in their work for Christ.  Pray they will prepare spiritually for Jesus to use them by spending time with him in prayer, seeking a humble, clean heart and his love to fill them.  Pray for Pastor Bob Confer and Norberto and Marcos Kurrle as they finalize details and worksite plans. Pray for Pastor Bill Shepard who will lead VBS there and for anyone giving an evening teaching moment, that they receive the wisdom to adapt their sharing to the needs and culture of the Paraguayans.

January 29-February 3, Pray for Departure

“Let all who trust in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy.  Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.” Psalm 5:11

After an overnight in Chicago, the team departs O’Hare early Friday morning. Pray for complete transfer of all luggage and equipment in the quick plane change in Panama. Pray for good team-building times of talk, laughter and sharing during the long hours of travel by bus, plane and bus to reach Obligado on Feb.3. Pray for sleep, patience with delays and uncomfortable conditions, and a quick adjustment in Paraguay to the summer heat, unfamiliar food, and accommodations in Paraguay.

Saturday: “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, under His care.”

Team members are invited to worship with the Paraguayans in Obligado COG Saturday night, at Bella Vista on Sunday morning and Encarnación on Sunday evening.  Pray they will forget their weariness as they worship the Lord in unison.  Pray smiles, hugs and simple greetings will bridge language differences.

February 5-9, Pray Daily

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

A primary team aim is to strengthen the spiritual partnership between First Church and Paraguayan churches and to support their efforts to transform lives in their country. Pray team members and Paraguayans will eagerly seize opportunities to learn about and serve one another.

Construction will go on at three(3) worksites:  Radio Alternativa, Acacaraya (Obligado church plant) and San Blass (Obligado church plant).  Pray for safety at worksites. Pray each person will find the right task for their abilities and be quick to help wherever needed, that team members will stay hydrated and not overheat, nor overstrain muscles in unfamiliar tasks.

Tuesday-Thursday: Pray for good turnouts for the 3-day VBS—mornings at Obligado church and afternoons at Bella Vista church.  Pray for Pastor Bill and the team members and translators who assist him—to captivate the children with stories, songs and activities that reach their hearts; that all the children will fall in love with Jesus and grow in faith.

February 10-11, Pray for Departure

We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too. I Thess. 2:8

Team members will return to Asunción via a 5-hour bus ride on Saturday, with possible time for sightseeing.  Return flight is 2 a.m. Sunday with a layover in Panama City and arrival in Chicago at noon (CT). Pray members will realize ways they have grown closer to Jesus and more certain of God’s call to them personally; that they will come home with new praise for God and their  hearts ignited with Christ’s passion for the unsaved world.
