It's my day off, and I am outside in the cold, raking wet leaves. None of my neighbors are raking leaves. That's because they don't have three red maple trees like I do, the kind that drop leaves early. So I'm not in the best of moods at this moment, feeling sorry for myself I guess.
Until my phone vibrates. The bell prayer... my whole attitude changes with the simple vibration of a phone. It's like getting a personal call from Abba Father, reminding me to take a moment to be with Him.
All of a sudden my eyes are opened. The beauty of falling leaves comes into view. The fact that the sun is actually shining is noticed. The sound of the breeze as it blows through what is left of the leaves on the trees over my head.
My serious work frown is transformed into a smile.
How often do I allow a few wet leaves to dampen my spiritual fire? Not today, in this moment.
