a look back

Okay, time to just take a look back along the trail I’ve been on the past few months.

Experiment #1…  bookends.  I’m starting and stopping my day with God.  That’s been awesome.  I haven’t missed more than once in two months.  That’s amazing for me.  At the same time, it has not gotten old.  I do want to come up with some new ways to keep it fresh though.  Typically, I lift up my head and look out my bedroom window at the sunrise and give the day to God.  This usually involves the word, “surrender”.  I pray over Candi, and sometimes other family members or friends.  That’s it.

Before bed I’ll often think back on the day (prayer of examen) as I drift off to sleep.

Experiment #2… breathing.  The first month or so was incredible, but as I look back now, the past few weeks I have slacked off on this.  Okay, I will give more attention to being intentional about breathing the name of God; especially the 30 second breaks in the middle of the day, I need more of those.

Experiment #3  praying for people.   I’ve had great days and not so good days with this.  Praying for everyone I see or think about has had a huge impact on me.  It’s really increased my awareness of God.  I still struggle to remember.  Sometimes I remember after the fact, which is better than nothing because I still end up praying for them and connecting with God in the process.  I definitely have experienced an ongoing deeper genuine love for people over the past month because of this experiment.  I really want to focus more on it and get better at remembering and being aware.

Well, those are the three major experiments I have focused on, although God has been showing me more and speaking to me clearly in other ways.   God has spoken through divine interruptions (trains), through scripture (memorizing and meditating), through my community of friends and family, and other ways as well.  Let’s see what May brings.
