Hospitality & Guest Services

Welcome Center Volunteer (St. Joe, all services) This person will staff the Welcome Center or Serve Central in the Gathering Area depending on the rotation. You will be responsible for helping answer questions and helping get people signed up for various events and service opportunities. Must enjoy working with people. Commitment length: 6 months, about one service per month. For more information or to sign up contact Chris Britton.

Administrative Volunteer-Worship Ministry This person will work directly with the worship staff in our St. Joseph Campus office during office hours. Responsibilities can include everything from paperwork to overseeing other volunteers. Some computer skills are necessary. 3+ hours/week. For more information or to sign up contact Ryan Klund.

Children's Ministry Guest Services (All campuses, all services) This person will be responsible for welcoming new families by explaining the check-in process and walking them to the classrooms.  Duties will also include turning on and working the computer check-in and troubleshooting check-in problems as needed. Must enjoy greeting and making people feel welcome. Commitment length Sept. - June, 45 min per weekend. For more information or to sign up contact Tracey Harlan.

Security (All Campuses, Sunday, Wed, Saturday) This person will maintain the safety and security of children throughout the KidZone area by walking around and keeping a watchful eye. No special skills required. Security personnel are needed at all campuses for all services, 1.5 hours per week. USHER (St. Joe: 11 AM service) This person is in charge of greeting and seating visitors on their way in to weekend service. This person also helps with collecting the offering.This person is the first face visitors see when they walk in to First Church and must be comfortable being friendly and accommodating with guests. Commitment Length: 6 month minimum, 1 or 2 services each month. Service: 11 AM, St. Joe Campus. If interested contact Ryan Klund. 

Tech & Visual Arts

COMPUTER TECH OPERATOR (St. Joe & Benton Heights: all services) This person is in charge of running media for the weekend service. Duties include operation of lyrics during rehearsal and worship time, choosing creative background media for song selections, and changing slides during the sermon portion of the service. You must have a basic understanding of computers, familiarity with Mac operating system and willingness to learn tech systems. Commitment length: 6 month minimum, 1-2 services a month. AUDIO TECH OPERATOR (St. Joe & Benton Heights: all services) This person is in charge of running the sound/audio board for our the weekend service in one of our venues. Former audio mixing experience is recommended but not necessary. Commitment length: 6 month minimum, 1-2 services a month. If interested contact Ryan Klund. 

Serve the Community

SMART Tutor - Hull International Academy Become a tutor through the Benton Harbor SMART Tutor program, which is a customized tutor program focused on students in grades 1-8. Tutors should value education and enjoy working with kids, other than that, no special skills are needed. Training will be provided. Benton Harbor students who have a tutor increasing their reading by 2.3 grade levels. Only 1 hour per week, and hours are flexible between 8:30-4:00. Requires background check. CERTIFIED AUTO MECHANIC, Cars Ministry - We are seeking certified auto mechanics to help work on donated vehicles one weekend a month. By volunteering with the cars ministry you will be helping provide individuals in need with much needed transportation. Commitment length: 1 year, 1 weekend a month. Flexible schedule. MENTOR, Open Table - We are currently seeking four(4) volunteers to help two(2) youth. No particular skills or experiences are needed, just a willingness to listen to what is needed to offer your life experience and guidance to the youth being served. In-depth training will be provided. There are two different times available during the week: around lunch or in the early evenings. On average you’ll meet an hour a week for 12 months. Children's Ministry

Big KidZone Large Group Leader (All campuses, all weekend services) This person will creatively share the Bible in a large group setting to 1st - 5th graders. Curriculum is provided, but you will need to do prep work in advance. Must be enthusiastic, and enjoy teaching kids. Commitment length: Sept. - June, flexible schedule. Big KidZone Small Group Leader (All campuses, all weekend services) This person will build relationships and encourage 1st - 5th Graders. Duties include overseeing activities that reinforce the large group lesson in a small group setting as well as helping the children memorize monthly Bible verses. The small group activities are provided as part of the curriculum. You will volunteer during one service each weekend or every other weekend, you will need to familiarize yourself with the lesson in advance of your small group. Commitment length: Sept. - June. Just For Kids Small Group Leader (St. Joe: Wed mornings) This person will build relationships and encourage 2 year olds - prekindergarten.  Duties include presenting lessons in a small group setting as well as overseeing activities or crafts, play time and snack time. You will need to familiarize yourself with the lesson in advance of your small group. Commitment length: Sept - May; Wednesdays 9:15-11:30. For more information or to sign up contact Tracey Harlan.

Nursery Volunteer (All campuses, all weekend services & Wed AM) This person will love and care for infants and toddlers. Must enjoy caring for small children. Special Needs Buddy Team (St. Joe, 1 service each weekend) This person will help a special needs child enjoy the children's program as they move through worship, large group lesson and small group activities. WOW Small Group Leader (St. Joe, Wed evening) This person will build relationships and encourage 1st - 5th Graders. Little WOW Helper (St. Joe, Wed evening) This person will assist the instructor with a variety of activities each Wednesday evening. Must enjoy working with children who are 3 years - old to kindergarten. There is no prep work required. Commitment length: Sept. - April, Wed 6:15-8:15 PM. Worship

Children's Ministry Worship Leader (All campuses, all weekend services) This person will lead children in worship during service hours. Must enjoy providing lively worship and working with kids. It is not necessary to play an instrument. If possible, children's worship team practice on Wednesday from 6-6:30 PM. Schedule is flexible. Commitment length: Sept - June. Youth Ministry

DGROUP Leader (St. Joe: Wed 6:15 PM) This person invests in and leads a small group of either middle school boys or girls. Lesson materials and discussion questions are provided. We meet every Wednesday night from 6:15-8:15. Commitment length: Sept - June. If interested contact Alex Weeks.

Tribe Leader (St. Joe: Sun 6 PM) This person invests in and leads a small group of either high school boys or girls. Lesson materials and discussion questions are provided. We meet every Sunday night 6:00-8:30pm. Commitment length: Sept - June. If interested contact Caleb Weeks.

Cafe Monitor (St. Joe: Sun 6 PM) During Tribe on Sunday nights we need an adult to supervise the cafe area while leaders are in a meeting and hanging out with students from 6 - 7 pm. This will involve running snacks, cleanup, and being a present adult. Commitment: 1 or 2 school semesters (September - December, January - May).
