Four faces at the window, watching 40,000 runners from the comfort of our hotel room. We have a perfect view of Michigan Avenue. There is something inspiring about seeing so many passionate people take off on a 26.2 mile run. My brother Mike was going to run the marathon, however knee trouble ruined that plan. But the plane ticket was purchased and hotel room paid for, so why let it go to waste?
My brothers and I meet in Chicago for two days of cards, gut renching laughter, and Settlers of Catan into the wee hours of the night. Along with some deep dish pizza we also dig into some deep discussion, catching up on life issues and encouraging one another. Why have we never done this before?
Do you recall a moment when you knew it could be a turning point in your life? I think we just had one. You can spend a lifetime window watching, or you can open a door and walk through it. Did we all just agree to run the Chicago Marathon together next year? Yes, I think that is what just happened! There... I said it. It's public information now. There's no turning back.
Next year I'll be crossing the finish line with my brothers!
